THE OLD SILK MILL
The industrial-architecture project to restructure one of Valdobbiadene’s 4 silk mills is part of a wider project implemented by Bortolomiol. It has led to the creation of a “wine centre” dedicated to sustaining and promoting the area.

The history Valdobbiadene silk mills is firmly rooted in the ancient silkworm farming tradition, begun in this area by the Venetian Serenissima Republic as far back as the 17th century. The mill workers were all female, including young girls, girls of marrying age and mothers with large families. Men worked just as hard taking care of the vineyards on the hill slopes.

The Bortolomiol women have dedicated the splendid perlage of Filanda Rosé to those extraordinary, forgotten women, to their hard work and songs; and to the courageous women of today, especially those who live in underprivileged countries and work for the well-being of their families and societies.
